COUPLES often spend thousands of pounds on their wedding day. But one mum has explained she had the "perfect" nuptials at a fraction of the cost. Demi took to TikTok to share a slideshow of pictures from her ceremony, which took place in her local registry office.

And she even shunned the big white dress so many brides go for - instead opting for something a whole lot more casual. "Turning up on your wedding day in your gym outfit while your partner turns up in his work clothes," she wrote over the top of a snap of them during the ceremony. They had "two witnesses and no stress".

They then met up at the end of the day with their children for a movie night. "12 years together, 1 year of marriage - plenty of ups and downs but we made it.

I love you," she wrote over the last picture of her and her man in their casual wedding ensembles. In the caption, Demi further explained: "This was my wedding day - the best day of my life with you, kids at school, just two witnesses, no stress, no worrying about what will happen at the end of the night when people have too much to drink! Most read in Fabulous "But yet us carrying on with our day and meeting up at the end with just us and our three children with a horror movie and our favourite snacks/takeaway." She also said that she had never wanted a "big wedding", she just wanted her and her husband and "to be content" - "even though I laughed all the way through it".

Concluding, Demi wrote: "Let's just normalise not having that big wedding and just doing what makes you happy." And the majority of people in the comments section agreed with Demi's idea for the perfect wedding day. "This is my idea of the perfect wedding!" one wrote.

"No one looking at me, not trying to please anyone but yourselves!! "Congratulations to you both." "You know what - we spent a lot on the wedding to please everyone else," another added. PLANNING a wedding on a budget doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your dream day.

Here are some tips to keep costs down while still creating a memorable celebration: Set a Budget and Stick to It Determine your total budget early on and allocate funds to different aspects of the wedding. Track all expenses to avoid overspending. Limit the Guest List Keep your guest list intimate to reduce costs on catering, venue, and other per-person expenses.

Choose an Affordable Venue Consider non-traditional venues like parks, community halls, or a family member's backyard. Look for venues that allow you to bring your own vendors. DIY Decorations Create your own centerpieces, bouquets, and other décor items.

Use seasonal flowers and simple, elegant designs. Opt for a Weekday or Off-Season Wedding Venues and vendors often offer discounts for weekday or off-season weddings. Simplify the Menu Choose a buffet or family-style meal over a plated dinner.

Limit the number of courses and opt for affordable, yet delicious options. Borrow or Rent Attire Borrow wedding attire from friends or family, or rent dresses and suits. Look for sales or consider pre-owned wedding dresses.

Digital Invitations Send digital invitations instead of printed ones to save on printing and postage costs. Hire a DJ or Create a Playlist Hire a DJ instead of a live band, or create your own playlist for the reception. Simplify the Cake Opt for a small, simple cake for the ceremonial cutting and serve a sheet cake to guests.

By being mindful of these tips, you can create a beautiful and memorable wedding without breaking the bank. Remember, the focus should be on celebrating your love and commitment, not on how much you spend. "Cost all our savings and didn’t have a honeymoon because it cost too much.

"This seems much better lol." To which Demi replied: "I didn’t want to be on edge for my wedding day or stressed - something low cost so we could do this and have a big honeymoon. "We were meant to travel to Vegas and Mexico for ours but ended up saving to do up the house instead.

" "I honestly think this is the way," someone else commented. Read More on The US Sun "It means more in my opinion. Like, you’re doing it for the right reasons, not for the show.

"I wish you all the best for forever together.".
