A beloved chippy in Prestwich has encouraged people to ‘support local businesses’ as two big firms gear up to move into the Bury town. Earlier this year, famous Manchester-based pizzeria Rudy’s announced it had chosen Prestwich as the location for its seventh Greater Manchester restaurant. There are also rumours, which have not been officially confirmed, that bakery Gail’s are also set to move into the area.
The owners of Chips @ No.8 , on Clifton Road, posted a heartfelt message online saying they feared the potential arrivals might result in loyal customers ‘forget[ting] us’ as they choose to spend their money with the bigger businesses more. The chains have identified it as such and are moving in! The impending redevelopment of the precinct has hastened the charge.
” The owners of the chip shop suggested that bigger businesses considering moving into Prestwich were ‘piggy backing the dreams, the visions, the hopes and mostly successes of the independent businesses’ that has established the town as a ‘proud’ community, citing venues including Cuckoo, The Pearl, Butterfingers and Dokes as just some of many examples.
