The powertrain is similar to that of our recent testers from Hyundai's sister brands, the Kia EV9 and the Genesis Electrified GV70 . The Ioniq 6 has a smaller, smoother body mold, giving the car even more range on the same electric components. It boasts a rear-wheel-drive trim with 360 miles of EPA-estimated range.

That range bests several luxury competitors at the top end of the market and even beats several Tesla models, including the Cybertruck. Like our other Hyundai-like testers, the acceleration is zippy, and the regenerative braking is adjustable with four stages.

And let's not forget the tech - Hyundai has packed in advanced features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist that can even change lanes with limited driver input on the highway. Our tester, with all-wheel-drive and multiple digital onboard upgrades, had an ample EPA-estimated range of 270 miles - but we were able to squeeze more juice from the battery. For long trips, drivers can quickly zap the efficient battery.

But underneath the wild-looking exoskeleton is an extremely capable car with a shockingly low price. Pros: RANGE: The Ioniq 6 has a battery range between 240 miles and 360 miles. CHARGING: The battery is also one of the fastest-charging on the market with a 10% to 80% charging speed of 18-minutes.

INTERIOR: The inside of this car is spacious and luxurious. Occupants will find nifty storage space and cubbys throughout. TECH: Hyundai fit loads of tech into this car - the driver safety systems are extremely helpful and can even switch lanes autonomously (but you must keep both hands on the wheel).

PRICE: This is one of the cheapest EVs on the market. A sub $40,000 base price is exceptional value for this car - some competitors in the same price category have less than 160 miles of range. Cons: POLARIZING REAR: I have grown to like the back of the car - but it is simply not for everyone.

INTERESTING RANGE/PRICE RATIO: The 360 mile range version is cheaper than the 270 mile range version. Feels like an interesting choice. Up front, the headlights are the perfect example of the Ioniq 6’s design ethos.

They're shaped like old-school halogen lamps but feature modern LEDs inside, creating a fusion of past and present that sets the tone for the whole vehicle. The bumper underneath the gorgeous headlights opens at the car's demand, depending on the car's aerodynamic efficiency. The rear is where things get even bolder and perhaps more polarizing.

The roofline slopes aggressively downward, almost like a coupe, and finishes with a dotted brake light bar and a faux spoiler. It's a daring look that's not for everyone, but it works well for those who like their cars with a bit of edge. Inside, Hyundai continues to impress.

The Ioniq 6 offers a surprisingly plush interior for its price point, including a ton of room with plenty of storage scattered throughout the cabin. In between the front seats, Hyundai built a two-tier storage system. Occupants can fit items as large as a backpack or a full grocery bag in the bottom tier.

The top has adjustable cupholders and a spacious center console. Rear passengers aren't left out either, with ample legroom that makes this EV a realistic family option for road trips. Granted, the roof slope cuts a bit into the headroom in the back, potentially cramping the posture for above-average height riders.
