We have more newsletters Show Me No thanks, close See our Privacy Notice While tasty food can be found across Cambridge , there are two hotspots for dishes from across the globe: the market and Mill Road . During an afternoon thick with clouds, I decided against the risk of a damp dining experience in Market Square – and headed to Mill Road. The menu displayed outside Bedouin drew me in: rich tagines, spiced pastries and slow-cooked meats seemed the perfect salves for a drizzly day .

I was also in time for the ‘early bird’ offer. As I entered the restaurant, I was struck by its luxuriant cosiness. Multicoloured wall rugs from the Sahara were draped across the walls and seats, warmed by golden light that glowed from the gem-studded, lantern-style lights.

While I settled in, the waiter brought over a little bowl of pickles, which were on the house. (Image: Siobhan Middleton / CambridgeshireLive) The tangy, crunchy cucumber, cabbage, carrots and chillies kicked my taste buds into gear, and my mind turned to my meal.

My CamBites reviews are aimed at showcasing the county’s more affordable dishes, so I turned my eyes to the menu’s cheapest dishes. Bedouin’s main meals range from £14.50 to £19.

90. The ‘early bird’ offer is two courses for £20.90 or three courses for £25.

90. It is available on weekdays, from 12pm to 3pm and 5pm to 6.30pm.

It is not offered on Saturdays or Sundays, and the restaurant is not open on Tuesdays. The two lowest-priced main meals are £14.50: adess dziria, a lentil and vegetable stew with sauteed spinach and butternut squash, served with tagine bread; and Levantine moussaka, an oven-baked dish of aubergine, courgette, tomato, onion, peppers and chickpeas, served with rice and salad.

Tangy, salty pickled vegetables on the house at Bedouin (Image: Siobhan Middleton / CambridgeshireLive) I opted for the moussaka; as a fan of Greek moussaka, I was keen to see what the Levantine style would taste like. It was a lightly-spiced, stew-style hug of a dish, sprinkled with parsley. Despite their subtlety, the spices in both the moussaka and the rice added a noticeable aromatic depth of flavour.

My meal was both heart-warming and belly-filling: the portion was big. I had opted for two courses for £20.90 so, somehow, I found room for dessert.

Bedouin’s dessert menu ranges in price from £2.75 – for one scoop of ice cream, sorbet or frozen yoghurt – to £7.50, for caramelised fig tart.

I chose a £6.50 dessert of baklava: layers of filo pastry with honey and pistachio nuts, served warm with vanilla ice cream. Deliciously sweet dessert of baklava at Bedouin (Image: Siobhan Middleton / CambridgeshireLive) The plate was filled with two pastry parcels and one nest of crispy vermicelli.

Each mouthful had a satisfying, delicate crunch and a honey-sweet luxuriance. The ice cream was soft, and the pistachios crumbled on top added a subtle nutty flavour. I accompanied the meal with a bottle of Selecto, an Algerian drink flavoured with apple and caramel.

The hint of caramel shone through and, surprisingly, I did not find it too intensely sweet. It is worth noting that Bedouin is an alcohol-free restaurant, but it has an impressive selection of alcohol-free cocktails. From warm golden light heart-warming food , Bedouin is the perfect restaurant for a drizzly day or a delicious escape from the bustle of the city.
