Hyundai has revealed its latest ‘rolling lab’ prototype, a performance electric vehicle (EV) with tech borrowed from the Ioniq 5 N but in an Inster-sized package. Called the RN24 – because it’s a ‘rolling lab’ concept for the N brand and was developed in 2024 – this bare EV almost looks like a full-scale remote-controlled car, but it could have an influence on future production models. “Hyundai N is not just a brand but a representation of our commitment to innovation and high performance,” said Manfred Harrer, executive vice president and head of the Genesis and Performance Development Tech Unit.

Riding on a 2660mm wheelbase, the RN24 is 80mm longer between the axles than the upcoming Inster city EV, but a massive 340mm shorter than the Ioniq 5 N from which it borrows its powertrain. Powering the RN24 is the Ioniq 5 N’s 84kWh battery and dual electric motor setup which can provide 175kW to the front wheels and 303kW to the rear, totalling outputs of up to 478kW.
Built in a chassis inspired by Hyundai’s i20N Hybrid challenger in the World Rally Championship, the brand says it’s targeting a sub-3.4 second 0-100km/h sprint time for the RN24, as well as a 240km/h-plus top speed.
