Sunday, August 25, 2024 Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced that a Hyatt affiliate has signed a management agreement with Heiwa Real Estate Co. Ltd. to open a new Park Hyatt hotel in Sapporo.

Slated for a 2029 debut, the hotel will be located in the heart of Hokkaido Prefecture’s economic and cultural hub in northern Japan. This will mark the fourth Park Hyatt branded property in Japan, joining the award-winning Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono, a luxury mountain retreat in Hokkaido’s premier ski resort. The new hotel will occupy the 27th to 35th floors of a mixed-use tower under development at the intersection of the iconic Odori Park and the bustling Sapporo Ekimae-dori, the city’s primary commercial and business avenue.

Guests will enjoy breathtaking views of the park and cityscape, with the building designed by renowned architect Kengo Kuma, celebrated for his innovative approach to harmonizing architecture with nature. Park Hyatt Sapporo will feature 157 elegant rooms and suites, exceptional culinary and wellness offerings, an indoor swimming pool, and versatile event spaces. Hokkaido has become a top destination for international visitors, drawing the highest number of overnight stays and tourism spending outside Japan’s three major metropolitan regions, according to the Japan Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism.

Known for its rugged landscapes, world-class powder snow, exquisite seafood, and unique indigenous culture, Hokkaido is easily accessible by a 90-minute flight from Tokyo, and soon by high-speed rail when the Bullet Train extends to Sapporo in the early 2030s. Sapporo, Japan’s fifth-largest city, is a popular destination, with attractions like the Tanuki Koji shopping street and the lively Susukino entertainment district. The city’s winter scenery is also recognized as one of Japan’s most spectacular sights.

Park Hyatt Sapporo will be part of Hyatt’s expanding presence in Japan, which includes 21 hotels across nine brands, such as Andaz, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Caption by Hyatt, and The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. This expansion in Hokkaido follows the opening of Park Hyatt Hanazono in early 2020 and the upcoming launch of the Hyatt Centric brand in Sapporo in 2026..
