Ayra Wang Police are searching for at least three robbers who broke into a jewelry shop in Sheung Shui and made off with about HK$1 million worth of ornaments early yesterday. The store, a branch of local luxury brand Dazzle, is in the Landmark North mall. A security guard, who was on patrol, saw a broken glass wall and masked suspects inside the shop after hearing sounds of something breaking at around 6.
47 am. He attempted to catch the robbers, one of whom was pushing a blue trolley, but they managed to flee and escape in a vehicle. He called the police at 6.
51 a.m. Three suspects dressed in black and wearing masks could be seen in surveillance footage, with one of them smashing the store's glass wall with a hammer.
Inside, officers found jewelry cabinets broken into. In their haste, the robbers left behind a pair of gold dragon and phoenix bangles on the ground. The suspects exited the mall via the back stairs and fled in a white seven-seater toward San Wan Road.
Items they made away with included more than 100 bracelets, seven gold necklaces and two diamond rings. Nearby shop staff also heard the loud bang early in the morning and noticed the shattered glass at the jewelry store. One staff member, Cheung, recalled hearing multiple loud crashes, likening them to the sound of a ceiling collapsing.
"The security guard shouted at the suspects, demanding to know what they were doing and telling them to freeze," Cheung added. Following the incident, police and enhanced security.
