Protests on the streets of Sussex this weekend have passed peacefully, police said. One of the events on Saturday in Hastings saw hundreds of anti-racism campaigners gathered in the town with banners. The protest was in response to violence across the country which has been fuelled by anti-immigration sentiment.
Hastings Stand Up to Racism said around 400 people were at its event yesterday. It comes after hundreds protested in Crawley on Friday and thousands were in Brighton on Wednesday to show solidarity with communities being targeted. "Following recent events nationally, there was already an increased police presence and we have continued to engage with the public and protestors to provide reassurance. "Thank you again to the people of Sussex who have shown unity across communities and who have supported us during this time."
