Monday, January 27, 2025 The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced that Hume MRT Station, situated along Upper Bukit Timah Road between Hillview and Beauty World stations on the Downtown Line (DTL), will commence passenger service at 3 PM on February 28, 2025. Originally constructed as a shell station during the DTL Stage 2 development, which began operations in December 2015, Hume Station remained non-operational due to initial assessments of insufficient projected ridership. However, subsequent developments, including the revitalization of the Rail Corridor and the transformation of the former Bukit Timah Fire Station into a recreational hub, have increased the area’s appeal, prompting the decision to open the station.
The station’s opening is set to significantly enhance connectivity for over 20,000 residents in the vicinity. Travel time from Hume Station to Downtown Station in the city center is estimated to be approximately 30 minutes, a reduction from the current 45-minute journey. Additionally, trips to the Singapore Botanic Gardens will be halved to about 15 minutes compared to existing bus travel times.
The station will also provide convenient access to local attractions such as the Former Ford Factory and the Rail Corridor in Bukit Timah. To further improve accessibility, the LTA has constructed covered linkways connecting the station to nearby bus stops and designated pick-up and drop-off points. Additionally, 60 bicycle parking spaces have been installe.
