Mehta announced her decision to completely halt the purchase of leather products and sell all the leather items she currently owns, with the proceeds set to benefit animal welfare NGOs. In a post that she put up on Instagram, she wrote, “As a vegetarian, I won’t eat meat because it doesn’t sit right with me to consume a living being. How then can it sit well with me to partake in a market that prides itself on being “luxury” by levying their premium-ness on the quality of animal being skinned?” What did she say? “In the weeks to come, I will begin a sale of all my leather items- the proceeds of which will go towards animal welfare NGOs.
