Varanasi: The UP Special Task Force (UPSTF), along with Chopan police in Sonbhadra , succeeded in nabbing two persons with a consignment of 364 kg of ganja worth Rs 70 lakh. Meanwhile, Bhadohi police also nabbed five smugglers with 200 kg of ganja worth Rs 50 lakh. The ganja seized in both the districts was procured from Odisha for supply in east UP districts.

ASP (operations) of the district, Kalu Singh, on Sunday said that upon receiving inputs that a consignment of ganja was being transported hidden under coal ashes on a truck, cops of STF and Chopan police intercepted it at a bridge on the river Sone. When they checked the truck, 364.4 kg of ganja packed in 10 gunny bags were detected, after which the cops nabbed Hasan Ali and Shivprasad Mishra of Prayagraj.



The cost of the seized ganja was estimated at Rs 72 lakhs, said Singh, adding that the truck was also seized. In Bhadohi, ASP Tejveer Singh said that the cops of the SWAT team and Unj police station’s cops succeeded in intercepting two luxury cars in which the smugglers were carrying 200 kg of ganja worth Rs 50 lakhs. All five smugglers, including Rana Pratap Yadav of Haryana, Saurabh Oram, Ashutosh, Mohd Shivan Iraqi of Odisha, and Kundan Kumar of Bihar, were arrested while their cars were also seized.
