This week, MTV welcomes 14 new drag queens competing for the crown on a new season of “ RuPaul’s Drag Race .” Season 17 premieres Friday, Jan. 3, at 8 p.

“ RuPaul’s Drag Race ” is a reality empire that has launched several spinoffs. Each season, a group of talented drag queens competes in challenges to impress the host, RuPaul. Not only does the winner gain RuPaul’s approval, but they also take home a cash prize, crown and the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar.
Tune in each week for a new challenge that usually involves performance or fashion. After the queens take the runway, one is named winner for the week and the bottom two are up for elimination. A lip-sync competition will determine who stays and who is sent home.
In tonight’s Season 17 premiere, “ Squirrel Games ,” 14 new queens try to survive a game of Ru Light, Green Light before showing off their skills. Tune in tonight, Jan. 3, at 8/7c on MTV to watch.
