Ontario’s Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) has released the results of its 2023-24 assessments and you can check out how your child’s school stacks up when it comes to math and literacy. EQAO conducts standardized testing in reading, writing and mathematics for students in grades 3 and 6, mathematics in Grade 9, as well as the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test, which high school students are required to pass in order to graduate. The literacy test is taken in Grade 10 and can be retaken as many times as needed until a student passes it.
The grade 3, 6 and 9 EQAO tests are taken near the end of the school year with the results becoming available early in the new year. The recently released results show how students who were in grades 3, 6 and 9 last year fared on their EQAO testing. If you have a child who was in grade 3, 6 or 9 last year, they’ll soon be bringing home their individual report, if they haven’t already.
The assessments provide a snapshot of whether students are meeting curriculum expectations in reading, writing and mathematics, the EQAO website stated. The tests taken in grades 3 and 6 do not count toward a student’s grade, while the Grade 9 test does count toward the student’s math grade. A child’s individual report will show what level of achievement they scored on their tests, with Level 1 being below provincial standard and Level 4 being above.
