UAE flag carrier Emirates is known for many things. From its luxurious onboard products and the largest Airbus A380 fleet in the world to its widespread sports sponsorships and diverse global network from its hub at Dubai Airport (DXB), the Emirates name truly is one of the most recognizable brands in modern aviation. However, did you know that the airline is also engaged in sustainability initiatives? One such scheme that the Dubai-based career is involved with on this front has seen it upcycle old seat covers from its aircraft to be reused as backpacks.

With aviation being a money-driven industry, you would be forgiven for thinking that these are then sold to collectors. While this does happen, Emirates has recently taken a much more wholesome approach, donating them to young schoolchildren in need. Launched in 2023 Known as 'Aircrafted by Emirates,' the initiative of upcycling seat covers into backpacks began in 2023.



Emirates explained at the time that its " unique capsule collection of luggage, bags and accessories " captures " the spirit of innovation embedded in Emirates' culture and an ongoing environmental commitment to consuming responsibly ."
