Living with OCD ( Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ) can certainly be a challenge. The person diagnosed with this condition often gets subjected to mindless fears and self-destructive thoughts, which often translate to certain behaviors. Depending on the severity of the diagnosis, the patient may find themselves unable to conduct day-to-day affairs.

In an interview with The Humans Of Bombay, dentist Akanksha Arora Sarma recalled her struggle with OCD and how, with some help and love from her husband Pranay, she managed to live and even thrive with it. Talking to the publication, Akanksha said, “You see, I always struggled with OCD as a child. I used to wash my hands 10 times a day.

My family would say, ‘Kya ho gaya hai tumhe?’ They nor I could figure out that it was something serious. Until..

. I walked into my dental college in 2004 and met Pranay.” Reminiscing about their journey so far, Akanksha recounted about the unconditional support she received from her husband.

“ He had seen me struggle with OCD & severe anxiety. He understood my needs before I could. One day, he came to me & said, ‘Chal,’ And before I knew it, he was sitting beside me outside a psychiatrist clinic.

He held me in his arms, on days when my anxiety got to me. I stayed up at night, talking about dreams, when I couldn’t sleep because of my insomnia. Stood by me like a rock when I cried, asking, ‘Why me?’ And his, ‘You are going to achieve the stars,’ on days when I doubted myself, was all that I needed,” she told Humans Of Bombay.

The dentist revealed how OCD impacted her pregnancy. “We decided to go from 2 to a family of 3. But it wasn’t easy.

My pregnancy aggravated my anxiety. My condition worsened. But Pranay & I fought through it.

Soon we even welcomed a sweet baby boy,” she revealed. Agencies She concluded that while living with this condition is certainly not a cakewalk, she is confident that she will be able to brave through any challenges as long as she has her husband beside her. “It has been almost 20 years since.

..I still have good days and bad.

But jab tak Pranay saath hai, I know I can overcome any battle. Our love story isn’t perfect, but I know it took a lot of ‘It’s okay, we will work it out together!' And through this Pranay made me realize, true love stays..

.in good times bad, & in sickness, and in health,” she told Humans Of Bombay. A report from the Mayo Clinic explains that Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) involves a cycle of intrusive thoughts and fears, known as obsessions, which compel individuals to engage in repetitive behaviors, or compulsions.

These obsessive thoughts and compulsive actions disrupt daily life and cause significant distress. In an attempt to relieve the anxiety caused by these obsessions, people feel compelled to perform these ritualistic behaviors. Even when trying to suppress or dismiss the disturbing thoughts or urges, they persist, driving repetitive actions.

This creates a continuous loop that characterizes OCD. OCD often revolves around specific themes, such as an extreme fear of contamination. For instance, someone may repeatedly wash their hands to the point of irritation and soreness in an attempt to relieve their fear of germs.
