1874 NORTHWICH finished 2024 with a bang thanks to Eden Bailey. The forward was on fire to help Greens to victory at Romulus on Saturday afternoon, netting a hat-trick in a 4-2 victory. Bailey opened the scoring in the seventh minute and although the hosts quickly equalised, Jackson Coppack put Chris Herbert’s men back in front midway through the first half.

Bailey then doubled his tally just shy of the hour mark which was again followed quickly by another Romulus goal, but Bailey’s hat-trick sealing goal 10 minutes later ensured 1874 would return to Northwich with all three points. Herbert’s side remain third in the Midland Football League Premier Division table ahead of their first game of 2025 on January 4, when they are due to host Dudley Town. The team 1874 and the rest are chasing is leaders Lichfield City, who were 1-0 victors at Northwich Victoria as Vics closed out the calendar year still looking for their first competitive victory under co-managers Lee Duckworth and Luke Goddard.

They will open 2025 with a trip to Atherstone Town on January 4. In the North West Counties League, Winsford United moved level on points with First Division South leaders Stafford Town following another victory. Blues made it two away wins in three days by winning 2-0 at New Mills to follow up their 3-1 victory at Sandbach United on Boxing Day.

Jordan Cobley found Winsford’s breakthrough as the game entered its final quarter, with Ollie Pope sealing the victory in stoppage time. Wi.
