THE Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa’s recent handing over of $20,000 to project Bula Mai will fulfil its corporate social responsibility and contribute to a worthy cause. The official cheque hand-over was done at the resort on December 2. Project Bula Mai held a Style Fiji fashion show last weekend featuring nine local designers.
Proceeds from the show will be combined with the $20,000 and handed over to the Fiji Cancer Society, which is the charity of Style Fiji. Area general manager Vincent Macquet said the resort had been associated with Style Fiji for many years. “Over the years, the team at Style Fiji has done exceptional work and it’s only natural that we partner with grassroots organisations in Fiji to push the barriers to the next level,” he said.
“This year, not only did we sponsor the event behind the scenes at cost level, but we also sponsored an additional $20,000 towards the Fiji Cancer Society. “So, for us, it’s always ensuring that business hours are closely aligned to great initiatives in Fiji and to be able to make a difference as well.” Project Bula Mai co-founder Marlene Vuniwaqa said Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa has increased its sponsorship each year.
“We use fashion and entertainment to accumulate funds for charity, so every few years we change charity, but this is our third year with Fiji Cancer Society,” she said. “This year about 380 people attended the show. We didn’t have a major cash sponsor, so we rely a lot on the goodness of d.
