Wednesday, October 16, 2024 In response to the recent 2024 Policy Address delivered by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR Government, Hong Kong Airlines has expressed strong support for the newly announced aviation and tourism initiatives. These strategic measures underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing Hong Kong’s role as a premier international aviation hub, with policies that aim to attract more passenger and cargo traffic, ultimately driving economic growth. The Policy Address emphasized the completion of the much-anticipated three-runway system (3RS) at Hong Kong International Airport, which the Airport Authority Hong Kong is expected to finalize this year.
This critical infrastructure enhancement is projected to increase the airport’s capacity by an impressive 50% by 2035. This expanded capacity will optimize flight operations, boost airline efficiency, and deliver a superior experience for passengers. With Hong Kong’s strategic location as a gateway between Mainland China and global destinations, the increase in flight frequencies and route options will further elevate the city’s appeal as a top-tier transit hub.
These advancements are expected to catalyze the development of interline agreements, enabling an extensive and interconnected international route network. Hong Kong Airlines is particularly encouraged by the government’s focus on expanding air connectivity, especially in alignment with the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries..
