Monday, August 26, 2024 Hong Kong plans to double its Indian tourist arrivals in 2024 with exciting festivals and top attractions. In an ambitious move, the Hong Kong Tourism Board is gearing up to double the number of Indian tourists visiting the city this year, reaching an anticipated landmark akin to pre-pandemic levels. The concerted effort to boost tourism includes a series of cultural festivals and landmark events designed to draw visitors and enrich their experience in one of Asia’s most dynamic cities.

The baseline for this bold target is set against the backdrop of 2018’s tourism figures, before the global travel industry faced unprecedented challenges. The subsequent years, particularly 2019, were marked by significant disruptions including major flight cancellations and widespread protests relating to the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance. Despite these hurdles, the first half of 2024 has already seen promising figures, with nearly 181,000 Indian visitors, constituting 89% of the pre-pandemic visitor numbers.

Puneet Kumar, the Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board for South Asia and the Middle East, emphasized the robust lineup of events scheduled to catalyze tourism. “Our goal is not just to match but exceed the vibrant energy and the number of visitors we welcomed in the pre-COVID era,” Kumar stated in an interview with the Press Trust of India. At the heart of Hong Kong’s tourist attractions is Disneyland, a sprawling theme park that offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in worlds of fantasy and adventure across seven themed areas.

From the mystic allure of Mystic Point to the futuristic vibes of Tomorrowland, the park promises a full day (or more) of fun and discovery. The iconic Victoria Harbour offers more than just a panoramic view of the city’s impressive skyline. Known for its deep waters and strategic importance as a trading hub, the harbour is also the centerpiece for Hong Kong’s stunning annual fireworks display—a must-see event that lights up the city’s night sky spectacularly.

For those who appreciate breathtaking views, the Ngong Ping Cable Car provides a unique vantage point. This 5.7 km gondola lift offers a 360-degree aerial view of the lush landscapes and urban expanses of Hong Kong, making it a perfect spot for photographers and sightseers alike.

Perched on the 100th floor of the International Commerce Centre, the Sky100 Observation Deck offers unobstructed views of major landmarks like Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula. It’s an ideal location for visitors to get a literal overview of the city’s vast and varied terrain. As Hong Kong positions itself to reclaim and expand its role as a global tourism hub, the targeted doubling of Indian tourists represents a significant step toward recovery and growth.

With its strategic initiatives and a plethora of attractions that appeal to a diverse range of preferences, Hong Kong is poised to offer a memorable experience to tourists from India and around the world. Whether you’re seeking thrilling theme park rides, serene views, or cultural enrichment, Hong Kong in 2024 is ready to welcome you with open arms..
