Macchio, 63, who also helmed the Netflix hit, Cobra Kai, appeared centre stage as Coldplay shot a music video during their second show at Marvel Stadium. The video was for a new song titled Karate Kid. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin told the crowd: “We called up Ralph Macchio.
He’s now 63 years old and lives in New York City, except he’s not in New York City today. “With the permission of the Australian government, he might just be here in Melbourne.” Martin then explained the plot of the music video.

“He comes to our show and I’ve lost my voice. I see him in the crowd and he says: ‘Can I help you sing?’” Minutes later, Martin acted out his part for the video – pretending to lose his voice – and Macchio stepped into the spotlight and sang. Martin told the crowd: “I know many of you are thinking: ‘What the f--- did we pay for?’” The Karate Kid, released in 1984, tells the story of a boy who learns karate to overcome bullying and become a better person.
