Ali Bastian has revealed the devastating news that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer . The former Hollyoaks star admitted she was left in "total shock" at the stage two diagnosis after she discovered a lump in her breast while breastfeeding. The 42-year-old actress , who starred on the hit Channel 4 soap between 2001 and 2007, is currently having weekly chemotherapy treatment and will undergo a mastectomy and radiotherapy treatment early next year.

The news came shortly after Ali, who also appeared on The Bill, had moved to Ireland earlier this year hoping for a fresh start. She explained how she had been through after a series of "turbulent times" in London. She previously admitted her excitement at living in the property that is "overlooking the ocean on the West Coast of Ireland" before her devastating cancer news which came in June.

Now, however, she is getting the support of her husband and children following the diagnosis. Ali married actor and producer David O'Mahoney in 2019 in front of many of her Hollyoaks co-stars. It's thought the duo tied the knot at the lavish Star & Garter venue in West London.

Their vows were exchanged 18 months after David had popped the question during a musical show they attended on Ali's birthday. The pair also share two daughters together, Isla, 4, and Isabella, 1. Following the news of her cancer diagnosis, David told OK! Magazine : " I was with the kids and Ali stuck her head round the door and said that cancerous cells had turned up in the biopsy.

"She said it in the most subtle way so the girls didn’t twig. I could see how scared and in shock she was. It’s so tempting to try and ‘positive’ your way through news like this but it just hit us like a sledgehammer.

I just had a feeling of it being so unfair that Ali had been dealt this hand." Ali previously revealed the name for the couple's second child was picked with a sentimental nod to a family member. Previously speaking to OK! Magazine, the actress revealed the tot's middle name - Charlotte - was used in tribute to David's grandfather Charles.

"I vetoed it initially," Ali told the magazine at the time. "But the name came back up again and I kind of put it through an actress database in my head. And I thought of Isabella Rossellini, who's had to have so much strength, especially as she's got older.

She's always been beautiful and rejected Hollywood ideas of womanhood. It just kind of stuck. We really liked it.
