Ho Chi Minh City’s Ben Thanh–Suoi Tien metro line officially began charging passengers on Tuesday after offering a month of complimentary rides. Ticket prices range between VND6,000 and VND20,000 (US$0.
24–$0.79) per trip, with flexible payment methods such as bank cards and a dedicated metro app. Travelers can choose from single-journey tickets or unlimited ride passes valid for one day, three days, or a month.
Monthly passes cost VND300,000, with a 50% discount available for students. One-day and three-day passes are priced at VND40,000 and VND90,000, respectively. Specific groups, including war veterans, individuals with disabilities, seniors, and children under six, can ride for free.
Eligible passengers can use specialized cards or present ID cards to enjoy this benefit. Passengers purchasing single-journey tickets with cash can obtain a paper ticket featuring a QR code at ticket booths, which they scan at the gate. Contactless payments are available by tapping a MasterCard on the gate’s reader, with Napas card support starting January 24.
Additional card options, such as Visa, JCB, Amex, and UPI, will be introduced soon. For app-based transactions, riders can utilize the HCMC Metro app to plan routes, purchase tickets, and access QR codes for gate entry. MoMo e-wallet payments are also suppo.
