Ah, let them eat cake ...

or here we go again! As a history buff , I'm ever entertained by current events mirroring the past. Some may recall that the opening line of this letter alludes to the French Revolution in the late 1780s. In the current event, a person who made over $10 million dollars last year by denying health insurance coverage to people — who may well have died from his company's policy of deny, delay and dispose — was fatally shot earlier this month.

I suppose that it's reasonable to question the motivation of the shooter, but given the evidence presented so far, it's pretty obvious why he shot dead the leader of the insurance company. I'm in agreement with feeling sad about the loss of a husband and father to his family, but it's not at all surprising how the rest of the population is reacting. For the life of me, I'll never understand why our nation's health care is under control of insurance companies.

Something other than coldblooded murder needs to happen before we're told to eat our cake, pay our premiums and hope and pray that we'll be able to get helped in a timely fashion. James Roberts Longview Get local news delivered to your inbox!.
