Mackie Lake House has kept alive the decades-long tradition of serving tea and treats in the beautiful 1910 heritage home. And now, once monthly, visitors can experience a full, traditional English afternoon tea at Mackie Lake House, seated in the same rooms once enjoyed by the members of three families who lived in the house over the course of 89 years. Each tea will be hosted over a weekend on a Saturday and Sunday afternoon at 2 p.
m. and include a themed menu, decor, and historical connections to the house and grounds. Visitors will also get the chance to learn more about the history and etiquette of afternoon tea parties.
The next tea takes place Nov. 9 and 10, and being so close to Remembrance Day, staff were inspired by the teas organized by Vernon’s ladies groups to raise funds and boost morale during the First World War. Staff and volunteers will be dressed up in period costumes to serve sandwiches, scones, and treats to visitors who would like to add this historically-inspired activity to their weekend commemoration plans.
