For context, the rapper first debuted Slim during the very early days of his career back in the ‘90s, and the persona is known for his provocative and offensive lyrics. Throughout the album, Marshall repeatedly acknowledges the childish way that Slim has targeted marginalized communities over the years, and even calls him out for deliberately provoking outrage for the attention.
For example, in “ Guilty Conscience 2 ” he raps: “Just immature and literally you’re still mentally 13 and still thirsty for some controversy.” Meanwhile, Slim continuously mocks Marshall for “gaining a conscience” and accuses him of being scared of getting “canceled.” But towards the end of the album, things take a turn, with Eminem focusing on his personal life in two emotional tracks dedicated to his children.

However, many people are unaware that Eminem is also the adoptive father to two more children: Hailie’s cousins, Alaina, now 31, and Stevie, now 22, whose birth mom is Kim’s twin sister Dawn, who sadly died in 2015. Kim has also had well-documented troubles of her own over the years, including going on the run from the police in 2003 after she was arrested for possession of cocaine.
This ultimately led to her spending time in jail . Speaking to Rolling Stone in 2004, Eminem confirmed that he had “full custody” of Alaina, adding: “I was always there for Hailie, and my niece has been a part of my life ever since she was born. Me and Kim pretty much had her, she’d live with us wherever we was at.
” In the same interview, Eminem also opened up about caring for his younger brother Nate, who was taken into foster care when he was eight years old and Eminem was 23. He said: “When he was taken away, I always said if I ever get in a position to take him, I would take him. I tried to apply for full custody when I was 20, but I didn’t have the means.
I couldn’t support him. I watched him when he was in the foster home. He was so confused.
I mean, I cried just goin’ to see him at the foster home.” Eminem was true to his word, and after he found mainstream success as a rapper in 1999 at age 27, he became Nate’s guardian. The star has always been open about the struggles and neglect that he endured throughout his own childhood, and said that he was determined to give the children in his life a better upbringing.

Eminem would even show up for Hailie and Alaina at school during the height of his fame, accompanying them on field trips and attending their classes to read to the students for reading month.
