The Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom update brought the game into Arc 2 and is set to be the next big step in the Galactic War. Unfortunately, as with many updates and changes made by Arrowhead Game Studios, it hasn’t been met positively by the community due to the nerfs of fire-based weapons such as the Flamethrower and Breaker Incendiary Shotgun. Now, the head of the company has responded to the controversy.
Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani took to the Helldivers 2 Discord to get feedback from the community regarding the recent Escalation of Freedom update saying “Ok folks – how are we finding the update?” Helldivers 2 players took to the replies to share their feedback with Jorjani, with Nocturne saying “IMAGINE NERFING FIRE AND PROCEEDING TO RELEASE A FIRE WARBOND.” Democratic Huuli Hoarder gave both positive and negative feedback saying “New enemies are fun, having our favorite toys to use said against enemies being nerfed isn’t.” Jorjani then gave some insight into the team receiving the feedback, acknowledging that it was obvious that players wouldn’t be fans of the nerfs saying “So the trick for us as we try to parse feedback is that we have some folks who are very loud – while a lot of you are in the game and .

I’ve noted that people aren’t fans of nerfs (duh) and performance could be better – but really where we at” In response to many Helldivers 2 players complaining about the changes to fire, and the nerf of weapons such as the Breaker Incendiary Shotgun, Jorjani gave the reason as being because players used it too much saying “The Incendiary Breaker was like 30% of all Terminid sessions at some point. Very much a meta gun.
Is that a problem? Yes. Is it a big one? I don’t know. we’ll discuss it.
” It does seem that perhaps they should have discussed it prior to nerfing though. With the head of the company now acknowledging that nerfing fire weapons may have been the wrong call, it is possible that we could see this change reverted, or at least a middle-ground. It will be interesting to see how this could affect the upcoming Freedom’s Flame Warbond that will be released on August 8th.
