The helicopter service, the coastguard and ambulance service were called to a pier as part of a major "rescue operation". Police, Fire and Rescue, Helicopter Emergency Medical Service, RNLI, the coastguard and the ambulance service were called to East Pier in Littlehampton at 6.05 this morning for what a passer-by described as a "rescue operation".

The passer-by said it looked like a female was being rescued. Emergency services confirmed they attended but did not confirm any further details. A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: "We can confirm police were called at around 6.



05am and assisted the emergency services response. "There’s nothing further to report from a policing side.".
