It’s not too surprising to find that the lushly planted and colourful garden at Dun Muire on Seafield Avenue in Monkstown is one of the property’s standout features. This outside space was designed, more or less from scratch, and cultivated by the gardener Helen Dillon, who moved here with her husband in 2017 after the couple sold their Ranelagh home, which had its own beautiful and much-admired garden. Surrounded by tall granite walls, the Monkstown garden has paved and gravel paths, flowerbeds and herbaceous borders with planting that includes ornamental climbers, spiky agaves, Pierre de Ronsard roses, a Chinese yellow banana tree, alliums, Marlborough rock daisies and slipper orchids.

Set behind electric gates, the 0.19-acre site also has a patio, an internal courtyard, a greenhouse.
