A low-pressure area formed over the West Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Northwest Bay off the north-Andhra coasts on Tuesday. The associated cyclonic circulation extended up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height.

The pressure area could cause heavy to very heavy sporadic rains over north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Sporadic heavy rains are likely over Rayalaseema. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places over the same areas.



Surface winds could reach speeds up to 30-40 kmph at a few places over north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Yanam during the next three days. The State will also have thunderstorms till September 28 along with lightning and strong surface winds. During the last 24 hours ending 8.

30 am on Tuesday, Tekkali in Srikakulam received 6.3 cm of rain. The remaining areas in the district received two to three cm of rain.
