Pears rank particularly high when it comes to dietary fibre and delectably dribbly sweetness. I’ve noticed my local supermarket “sale shelf” is full of pears this week, too. So with a bit of alchemy, zero-waste ambition and my Mary Poppins wand (OK, and the dopamine dump I get from bagging a bargain), I gift you a little ripper of a recipe.

For taste and texture reasons alone, pear compote is always a good idea on top of home-made granola, yoghurt, chia pudding or porridge. Sneak in some ginger and matcha, and let the neighbourhood rub your halo. Matcha green tea is humming with L-theanine.



This amino acid, beloved of celebrity neuroscientist professor Andrew Huberman, has shown to help improve sleep and reduce anxiety. Taking a closer look, we see that theanine tickles a neurotransmitter called GABA, responsible for calming the brain. Yes please.
