Pune: A professor and head of department at the Pimpri Chinchwad civic body-run Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital and Postgraduate Institute has been removed from his post following a Vishakha committee report on a sexual harassment complaint against him. In July, a junior resident doctor at the hospital wrote in an anonymous social media post that the head of a department regularly molested women resident doctors at the college. The post was deleted soon after.

PCMC commissioner Shekhar Singh had directed the YCMH administration to conduct a fact-finding exercise. A report was sent to the Vishakha committee last month. YCMH dean Rajendra Wabale told TOI, “Based on the committee’s recommendations, the senior doctor was removed from the post of HOD on Monday.

He will also not be appointed as a guide or examiner at the college.” A PCMC official said Vishakha committee members are still conducting a detailed inquiry in the matter, and appropriate action will be taken after they submit a final report. Based on their preliminary findings and after speaking to some women junior resident doctors, it was found that the doctor also used obscene language during lectures.

“The committee also advised not to appoint the doctor as a guide or examiner at the college as junior resident doctors fear he may influence results, following which instructions were issued to the YCMH administration,” Vitthal Joshi, deputy municipal commissioner, said.
