Pune: The civic administration in Pimpri Chinchwad started post-flood activities as water level started receding from various areas on Monday. The civic body has formed 16 dedicated squads to conduct health checkups of people living in flood-affected areas . A senior official of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) said that health teams have been deployed at shelter homes to conduct health checkups of citizens.
“A total of 435 patients with minor health issues have been checked by the health teams at temporary shelter homes , and all of them are stable,” an official said on condition of anonymity. A total of 1,116 people from 173 families living in low-lying areas such as Mulanagar, Bopkhel, areas of Sangvi, Phugewadi, Pimpri Camp, and Ravet were shifted to temporary shelter homes after the water levels in Pavana and Mula rivers increased following heavy rainfall in the catchment areas. Many citizens have started returning to their homes as water levels begun receding in many areas.
Civic teams comprising multipurpose health worker, and ASHA workers are creating awareness drives about vector-borne and water-borne diseases in flood-affected areas, the official said. “Citizens have been urged to take precautions and boil water to make it safe for drinking as a precautionary measure,” the official said. A civic official said that all zonal offices have been instructed to carry out post-flood works on priority, such as cleaning of roads, removal of mud from residential areas, and spraying as well as fogging the affected areas.
Additional staff have been deployed in all the zonal offices for these works. “Our officials have also started cleaning all the riverside areas across the jurisdiction using equipment like JCB machines and some recently purchased advanced machines,” a PCMC official said. Meanwhile, water discharge from Pavana river has been reduced to 5,180 cusecs.
