Fifteen-year-old Harry was crowned Junior British Champion at the event, which sees PGA Professionals competing alongside amateurs. He follows the footsteps of Lord Wandsworth headmaster Adam Williams who was British Amateur Speedgolf Champion in 2022, 2023 and runner-up in the British Pairs in May. Mr Willams was also crowned Senior British Champion on Sunday at Sunningdale Heath Golf Club.
More than 50 players took part in the 10th edition of the Championships, where competitors were challenged to combine pace with shot accuracy. The aim of Speedgolf is to achieve the lowest number of shots, combined with the shortest time taken to play a round. Speaking after the event, Adam Williams reflected on the success of the competing Lord Wandsworth contingent, which included staff, students and parents.
“I am so proud of the team from LWC, which continues to go from strength to strength," he said. "Congratulations, in particular, go to Harry who put in a stellar performance to win the Junior British Champion title, with a remarkable score. We always encourage our students at LWC to try a wide range of different things to find the paths in life that bring them the most joy.
This is the first time Harry has competed in a Speedgolf event, having volunteered as a runner at the British Pairs in May. “The Championships were a brilliant blend of high-quality performances from so many players on a technically difficult, but beautiful course. There is a warmth, camaraderie and internationalism to the sport of Speedgolf, that is growing from grass roots to national recognition and beyond at some speed.
It was amazing to be part of it on the tenth anniversary.”.
