It is Sweet 16 for the TJC Apaches soccer team. Tyler Junior College won its 16th consecutive game on a beautiful Saturday to earn the squad's 16th straight NJCAA national tournament bid. Yart Van Lieshout scored two goals and Alfred Mikkelsen had the clean sheet as the Apaches blanked Coastal Bend College, 2-0, to capture the Region XIV Tournament championship and the Gulf South District title.
Tyler improves to 16-0-2 on the season and will compete in the NJCAA Division I Men's National Tournament Nov. 17-23 in Wichita, Kansas. The Apaches' stellar defensive unit was on display once again against the Cougars, recording their 11th shutout of the season.
