Prayagraj: The Allahabad high court will conduct the hearing of all the 18 suits related to Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Eidgah dispute at Mathura on Sep 25. The bench of Justice Mayank Kumar Jain was scheduled to hear the consolidated suits on Monday. Earlier, on Aug 1, 2024, the high court had rejected the applications of the Muslim side challenging maintainability of suits of Hindu worshippers and held that all suits of Hindu worshippers are maintainable.

In the order, the court had held that these suits are not barred by the Limitation Act, Waqf Act and the Places of Worship Act, 1991, which prohibited conversion of any place of worship and to provide for maintenance of religious character of any place of worship as it existed on Aug 15, 1947. With this judgment, the high court had paved the way for all 18 consolidated suits to be heard on merit. The Hindu side has filed all these suits for possession after removal of the structure of Shahi Eidgah as well as for restoration of the temple and for permanent injunction.

The controversy is related to Shahi Eidgah mosque in Mathura which is said to have been built during the era of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb after demolishing a temple at the birthplace of Lord Krishna. The Muslim side (management committee of Shahi Eidgah and UP Sunni Central Waqf Board) is opposing this suit..
