Monday, August 26, 2024 Hawaiian Airlines is urging travelers to reconsider their plans as Tropical Storm Hone nears the Hawaiian Islands. In anticipation of the storm’s impact, the airline has issued travel waivers, allowing affected passengers to delay their trips until next week without incurring penalties. Alternatively, travelers can opt for a credit equivalent to the value of their original trip.

Flexibility for Flights to Hilo and Kona Passengers scheduled to fly with Hawaiian Airlines to or from Hilo (ITO) and Kona (KOA) on August 24th and 25th are advised to postpone their travel. The airline is permitting these passengers to reschedule their flights to alternative dates, free of charge, as long as the new travel is completed by August 29th. However, any rescheduled travel beyond this date may not be covered under the waiver policy.

Passengers who choose to rebook must do so within the same cabin class and route. Those opting to cancel their travel plans can retain the original ticket value as a credit, redeemable within a year from the purchase date. While Hawaiian Airlines is waiving change fees, travelers might still be responsible for any fare differences when booking new flights.

For further assistance, passengers can contact Hawaiian Airlines’ customer service at 1-800-367-5320 or utilize the live chat option on the airline’s website. Expect Delays and Cancellations Hawaiian Airlines has advised that delays and cancellations are likely as Tropical Cyclone Hone approaches. Passengers with upcoming bookings are encouraged to consider postponing their trips and staying safe indoors.

The storm is also expected to cause hazardous weather conditions, impacting both air travel and driving conditions. Responses from Other Airlines Air Canada, which operates flights between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Honolulu, has also issued a travel alert for flights scheduled on August 25th and 26th. Passengers are allowed to change their travel dates without penalty for these days.

Despite the advisory, flights are currently expected to operate as planned: Southwest Airlines is another carrier offering flexibility due to Hone, allowing passengers with reservations from airports such as Hilo (ITO), Honolulu (HNL), Kahului (OGG), Kona (KOA), and Lihue (LIH) to rebook within 14 days without penalty. As many airlines in the region are offering similar flexibility, travelers planning to visit Hawaii are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest updates and options. Taking advantage of these waivers can help ensure a safer and more manageable travel experience amid the approaching storm.
