A massive life-sized whale will appear at a Glasgow shopping centre on Wednesday. Visitors are invited to step into the whale's stomach at Glasgow Fort on July 24 for a free engaging storytelling session about the environment and ocean. The interactive experience will feature storytellers and actors who aim to educate children and their families about plastic pollution and recycling.

Six shows, each accommodating 30 spaces, will be held throughout the day. These exhibitions are appropriate for children older than three and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Families are advised to arrive early as reservations are not necessary.

The 25-minute sessions will run at 11am, 11.30am, 12pm, 1.30pm, 2pm, and 2.

30pm. Visitors will find the whale located across from Argos. The event will be backed by the environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful.

Representatives from the charity will be present, handing out free activity sheets to further education at home. It features a litter scavenger hunt, teaching children about rubbish and wildlife found in Scottish rivers. Phil Goodman, centre director at Glasgow Fort, said: "Sustainability is a key focus for us at Glasgow Fort.

"We champion biodiversity by planting a range of flowers and greenery to encourage pollination and have committed to sending zero waste to landfill since 2015 – recycling more than 6,000 tonnes in the process. “Educating others on the importance of sustainability is part of the pathway to a net zero future, and we’re pleased that we can play a small role in that with this event. “Not only is it eye catching, but it provides families with a free activity during the summer holidays – that’s also educational.

A win, win.” Heather McLaughlin, campaigns and social innovation manager at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: "It is crucial that young people know the impact the litter emergency is having on our waterways and the importance of protecting them. "Fun and engaging activities like this are a great way to get children involved and we can’t wait to see everyone.
