Harrison Ford opened up about filling William Hurt ‘s shoes in his new movie Captain America: Brave New World . The 82-year-old movie star appears alongside Anthony Mackie and Danny Ramirez as President Thaddeus Ross in the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe . However, fans will likely recall that the role is one that William , who passed away at the age of 71 in March 2022, originated.

He played the character in 2008′s The Incredible Hulk and appeared sporadically in movies through 2021′s Black Widow . Brave New World arrives in theaters on February 14. While attending a premiere, Harrison explained that it was “one of the attractions” to him that the role was previously played by William .

“It was a character that had been grounded in the work that a fantastic actor. It was a bonus, as far as I’m concerned,” Harrison told Deadline . He continued, adding, “And under the rules of the Marvel Universe, such as they are — and I know they’re a bit bendable — somehow its ok for one actor to come in and take over for another actor.

I was delighted to have the opportunity. I always wanted to do a Marvel [movie]. I wanted to be part of the pleasure of these entertainments.
