Some sections of the Netflix subscribership are just now discovering Ava DuVernay's sensational miniseries When They See Us . Based on true events from 1989, this four-parter dives into the lives and families of the five Black and Latino suspects falsely accused and then prosecuted for the raping and assaulting of a white woman in New York City's Central Park. It received 11 nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards and now towers above its true-crime competition with a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes .

Posting on Facebook's Netflix Addict community though, most viewers claim they'll only ever put themselves through it the one time. "It was only one time I needed to see it", "Barely made it through the first time", "This is one that I can't watch twice" and "This was a watch once for me. It was just too much," read four of the messages recently submitted.

Somebody else admitted: "I almost cried my soul out watching this", while another two fans of the show added: "This was a great series but really sad and some parts hard to stomach" and "I'm still recovering to this day". Executive produced by Oprah Winfrey, When They See Us features an ensemble cast that includes: Jharrel Jerome, Asante Blackk, Caleel Harris, Jovan Adepo, Michael K. Williams , Logan Marshall-Green, Joshua Jackson, Blair Underwood, Vera Farmiga, John Leguizamo , Felicity Huffman and Niecy Nash.

The critical consensus on RT reads: "Ava DuVernay pulls no punches in When They See Us, laying out the harrowing events endured by the Central Park Five while adding a necessary layer of humanity to their story that challenges viewers to reconsider what it means to find justice in America." When They See Us is now streaming on Netflix..
