The Bulgarian joined from Airdrieonians in the summer, having scored 12 goals last season to help the Diamonds to the Championship play-offs and he also grabbed the winner in their SPFL Trust Trophy Final win over The New Saints. However, amid just two starts in 10 appearances for Accies so far, the goals have dried up as the South Lanarkshire side prepare to head to Raith Rovers on Saturday.
Todorov feels he has ‘started from the bottom’ by moving clubs, but is eager to impress boss John Rankin and prove he can be a key player for them this term, if he is given the chance. He said: “I’ve come in off the back of three or four very good seasons. I’ve scored double figures in each of them.
Last season, especially, was very good and it was really successful. “But moving to a new team, you’re starting from the bottom. I’m just waiting patiently for my opportunity, trying to get up to speed with the boys and stuff.
“As a striker, you just keep trying to get into the right places. I’ve been unfortunate to not score a few already, coming off the bench and stuff, but I’m pretty sure that when that goal comes that the rest will follow. I just have to keep doing the right things and have belief in the team.
“The manager was the biggest part of my move here. We have some really good players, even though on Saturday [in a 3-0 defeat against his old club Livingston] we didn’t show that. “The team has recently been in the Premiership, and everyone behind the scenes is trying to work on returning them there.
” The 28-year-old has spent the last 13 years in the UK after moving from his homeland in 2011 and considers Scotland a second home. He added: “I became a citizen here last year. My partner’s from here as well and we’ve got our lovely boy as well, so we are really enjoying it.
“It’s a beautiful home to us now. But Bulgaria is always going to be ‘home’. I’ve got my parents still there.
I’ve got my sister back there. They come to visit often and my daughter comes to my games to watch me as well. “Saturday wasn’t a great day to watch us but, you know, football is full of ups and downs.
