Tuesday, August 27, 2024 In the first half of 2024, Hamburg recorded approximately 7.54 million overnight stays, marking a 5.1% increase compared to the pre-pandemic year of 2019.

This contrasts with a shortfall of 60,000 overnight stays in the first half of 2023 but shows a rise of 368,000 stays over 2019 figures. The number of overnight stays remained consistently high, with local visitors and day tourists playing a crucial role in sustaining tourism in Hamburg. Around 100 Million Day Visitors Annually Each year, approximately 100 million day visitors contribute significantly to Hamburg’s tourism industry.



These tourists are vital for smaller businesses and areas outside the main tourist attractions. Day visitors generate a gross turnover of around EUR 4.1 billion, accounting for nearly half of all tourism-related consumer spending.

Of these visitors, about 88% come for leisure, while the remaining 12% are business travelers. Hamburg continues to draw visitors in the second half of 2024, thanks to a variety of events. The Open Mouth Hamburg Food Festival will showcase diverse culinary delights, while Stage Entertainment will present the German premieres of “& Julia – the Pop Musical” and “The Michael Jackson Musical.
