Oscar winner Halle Berry is in negotiations to join Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Barry Keoghan in the planned film adaptation of Don Winslow’s 2021 novella “Crime 101” at Amazon MGM Studios. “American Animals” helmer Bart Layton is attached to direct the project which begins as high-level jewel thefts have taken place along the Pacific Coast and have remained unsolved for a decade, with the cops putting the blame on Colombian cartels. The pragmatic, middle-aged, recently divorced, San Diego-born detective Lou Lubesnick is chasing a whole different suspect however – a debonair lone-wolf jewel thief who has evaded capture thanks to living by a very strict code.

Berry will likely take on the role of an insurance broker named Sharon who fences the thief’s goods. Layton is directing and wrote the script with contributions from Peter Straughan. Layton, Hemsworth, Ben Grayson, Shane Salerno, Eric Fellner, Tim Bevan, Dimitri Doganis and Derrin Schlesinger produce.
