NEW DELHI: Max Whitlock , Britain's most decorated gymnast, is gearing up for his final Olympic appearance in Paris, determined to end his illustrious career on a high note. With his retirement looming after the Games, the three-time Olympic gold medallist is poised to make his last Olympic outing a memorable one. Whitlock's Olympic journey began with two bronze medals at the 2012 London Games.

He then went on to achieve even greater success, securing two gold medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics. In Tokyo, he showcased his dominance once again by successfully defending his pommel horse title. Now, at the age of 31, Whitlock is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to conclude his Olympic career in a spectacular fashion.

As he prepares to take center stage in Paris, the British gymnast is focused on delivering his best performance yet, aiming to add more medals to his already impressive collection. "I can't wait. My fourth Olympic Games feels surreal.

I am mega-excited," he said. Whitlock achieved a remarkable feat by securing the nation's first-ever Olympic gold medal in the sport back in 2012. This groundbreaking accomplishment is just one of the many accolades he has collected throughout his illustrious career.

In addition to his Olympic triumph, Whitlock has also claimed three world championship titles, showcasing his exceptional skills on the global stage. His dominance extends to the European championships, where he has emerged victorious on four occasions. Furthermore, Whitlock's success has been equally impressive at the Commonwealth Games, where he has amassed four gold medals.

With such an extensive list of achievements, including being honored with both an MBE and an OBE for his contributions to gymnastics , it is no surprise that Whitlock finds it challenging to single out the most defining moment of his distinguished career. "It is really hard to compare the emotions when you compare those four different Olympics. I think every Olympic Games in itself is different," he said.

"I think at London 2012, I was 19 years old, unexpected to produce anything and just going a lot for the experience to see where it could take me afterwards. "I went to then having a bit of pressure on my shoulders for Rio, then a lot of pressure on my shoulders for Tokyo. "Of course, there is a lot of pressure for Paris, but I feel like having announced it is my last one, I just want to go and give it my best shot.

" Whitlock's gymnastics journey began at the tender age of seven. However, the rigorous demands of the sport took their toll, leading him to step away following the Tokyo Games in 2021, feeling exhausted and drained. "I felt like I had a lot on my shoulders, and I almost started to fear failure in terms of moving forwards," he said.

It was his young daughter's newfound interest in the Olympics, sparked by her school lessons, that reignited Whitlock's passion for competition. "I never wanted to send a message down of quitting because of the fear of moving forwards or anything like that," he said in a recent Olympics.com interview.

"Willow's got the opportunity to come to watch the Olympic Games rather than just watching old videos on YouTube or anything like that. "I think that's what feels really good for me to be able to give that experience to Willow, to know that I'm pushing myself out of my comfort zone here.".
