For a short 2 km ride, Gurugram Woman discovered that the regular Uber fare was just Rs 100, but Uber Pets cost Rs 530. A Gurugram woman recently voiced her concerns over the steep pricing of Uber Pets, a service that allows passengers to travel with their furry companions. While the feature offers convenience, she was shocked by the significant price difference.
For a short 2 km ride, the standard Uber fare was ₹100, whereas Uber Pets cost a staggering ₹530. This drastic gap left her questioning whether the service is genuinely designed to be accessible or if it’s positioned as a luxury. She speculated whether the increased cost accounts for cleaning fees, premium drivers or is simply an added charge for pet owners.
Taking to LinkedIn, she wrote, “I was booking an Uber the other day and noticed their new feature, Uber Pets, a service that allows riders to bring their pets along. Sounds great, right? Well, not when you look at the price. I did a price comparison for a 2 km distance.
A regular Uber cab costs Rs 100, while Uber Pets costs Rs 530. That’s 5.3x the price just to have your pet with you.
Meanwhile, my local auto wala will take us for 60 Rs and give my dog some belly rubs." “I’m just curious, if the goal was accessibility, why is this service a luxury? What justifies this massive jump? Is it extra cleaning fees? A premium for pet-friendly drivers? Or just another way to squeeze more money out of pet owners? For many, pets are family and they shouldn’t.
