TOWN OF AMSTERDAM — Grand Indian Kitchen is set to open on Thursday on Route 30 in the town of Amsterdam, with a menu offering North and South Indian cuisine. “We are 100% sure people are going to love our food and they're going to come back,” said Sreekumar Sivakrupa, one of the owners. It’s located at 4822 Route 30, in the former Pizza Hut.
The owners, who also own Great Indian Kitchen in Guilderland, have been renovating the space over the last few months, updating the kitchen and adding a bar area. “It took some time to reshape everything,” said Sivakrupa, who added that the restaurant is cozy with candles at each table and light music playing in the background. “[It’ll be a] really pleasant experience for the people,” Sivakrupa said.
The menu is similar to the Guilderland location, with a mix of South Indian dosa options, as well as chicken tikka masala, butter chicken and samosas. There’s also a selection of tandoori dishes, which have become fairly popular at the Guilderland location. “We’re equally [selling as much] of the grill items as the other chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, chicken korma,” Sivakrupa said.
“We already have a good mix of North Indian and South Indian dishes. So that makes us a little more unique than any other Indian restaurant.” He credits their popularity in part to the fact that they cater to vegans and vegetarians.
“Vegan people love our food because we have more options than any other cuisine,” Sivakr.
