Grand Designs returns for a 24th series tonight (Wednesday, September 25) with host Kevin McCloud set to help more members of the public through their grand architectural projects. There have been more than 150 episodes since the show first aired in 1999, but there is one property that has touched the hearts of the viewing public more than any other. Chesil Cliff House in Croyde, Devon has been dubbed 'the saddest ever' Grand Designs house after owner Edward Short faces a string of problems with the luxury home, including the breakdown of his marriage while leaving him an estimated £7million in debt.
As the popular home renovation show returns tonight, we take a look at whether the cliffside home has finally attracted a buyer. How much is Chesil Cliff House currently on sale for? Despite initially going on sale for a cool £10m in February 2022, the home is still on the market for a far smaller price two-and-a-half years on. The house is currently listed by Savills for 'just' £5.
25m. Despite apparently garnering interest from multimillionaires when it was first listed, including allegedly popstar Harry Styles, the property remained unsold because prospective buyers deemed the asking price too high. The asking price has been knocked down a number of times, first to £7.
5m then to £6.5m with the house now valued at just over half what it originally went on the market for. The house is now being advertised by Savills on behalf of receivers with Mr Short suffering a shortfall .
