Grand Designs returned to Channel 4 with another episode of Kevin McCloud visiting an extraordinary project in Northamptonshire. The latest episode was marred with complications as Adam and Tassy took on the overwhelming task of turning a 20-meter water tower into a playful family home. Despite their determination, the couple quickly encountered difficulties after kicking off renovations in April 2019.
After welcoming a new baby, £5000 worth of tools were stolen before the Covid pandemic threatened their estimated three-year project timeframe. Due to the pandemic, work had stopped for the plumber, forcing the couple to re- mortgage their terraced house, meaning they could no longer take out equity to fund the renovation. As a result, Tassy and Adam had been frugal and only spending money from their savings.
They also ensured that they did as much work as they could on their own with the occasional unpaid help of volunteers, friends and family. With still a long way to go, the couple faced yet another setback as they attempted to create the radical design of a concrete interior with curved walls. Tassy wanted the walls to be inlaid with a complex geometrical pattern, which would be a permanent part of their home after they were set with cement.
However, as they poured the concrete for their walls, it unexpectedly started to leak, once again threatening the completion date of their project. Adam quickly brushed off the disaster, and with a mammoth clean-up task, the spilt conc.
