Pune: The civic body has decided to construct a grade separator at Mundhwa Chowk to ease traffic congestion at the busy junction. PMC will appoint a consultant to conduct relevant surveys in the area to decide on the alignment of the grade separator. Considered to be a key junction in the area, it witnesses huge flow of vehicles from Kharadi Bypass, Ghorpadi-Mundhwa (Tadigutta Chowk), Keshavnagar, and Magarpatta.
Commuters are forced to spend a lot of time in traffic snarls. Vehicles coming from Kharadi Bypass towards the chowk and from Mundhwa Road (Tadigutta Chowk) face problems in negotiating heavy traffic. The local traffic police have suggested to PMC to construct a flyover or grade separator.
PMC officials said that preliminary inspections suggested that it is possible to construct a grade separator connecting roads from Ghorpadi-Mundhwa and Keshavnagar. However, the consultant to be appointed by PMC will review the proposal on various technical aspects, including flow of traffic at the junction from all directions, topography, availability of land for entry-exit of grade separator, and management of vehicular movement. A construction plan will be finalised based on the survey's outcome.
