Nov. 12 is Grace Slaughter's day. Exactly one year from her previous career-high of 21 points, Slaughter recorded 22 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, to help push Mizzou women's basketball past Tulane 60-52 on Tuesday night at Mizzou Arena.
The sophomore guard's previous career best came in a 93-85 loss to Saint Louis on Nov. 12, 2023. On top of her perfect 4-for-4 shooting in the final quarter, the 6-foot-2 Grain Valley product added one rebound and two assists to the Tigers' winning effort.
“Her work ethic is second to none,” Coach Robin Pingeton said. “She is just so disciplined with her daily schedule.” After the Tigers fell down to 50-48 early in the fourth quarter, Slaughter wasted no time responding, cashing in a layup to tie the game at 50-50 with 6:47 remaining.
Less than 30 seconds later, Slaughter drilled a shot from beyond the arc to push the Tigers ahead 53-50. Following a layup from senior forward Laniah Randle and a made free throw by sophomore forward Hannah Linthacum, Slaughter further extended Mizzou's lead to 59-50 with another 3-pointer with 2:41 remaining. It was the Tigers' biggest lead of the night.
Slaughter was nearly perfect from deep, going 3-for-4. She finished 8-of-12 overall and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe Randle and graduate forward Angelique Ngalakulondi were the only other Tigers to reach the double-digit mark, as Randle scored 12 and Ngalakulondi notched 10 points.
