Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant move towards efficient waste management , the city corporation has installed GPS (Global Positioning System) on 47 vehicles. This includes those from seven companies that collect poultry waste and 40 vehicles from 29 establishments that handle food waste within the city limits. This initiative aims to monitor the movement of these vehicles and ensure that waste is collected only from designated locations and not illegally dumped elsewhere.
The GPS installation allows for precise tracking of these vehicles, enabling the authorities to keep a close eye on their operations. The GPS locations of these vehicles can be monitored through the ICCC (Integrated Command and Control Centre), which acts as a central hub for overseeing various aspects of the city’s infrastructure and services. Mayor Arya Rajendran, in a statement, emphasized the importance of responsible waste management and warned that strict legal actions would be taken against those found carelessly or illegally dumping waste in the city.
